Key slurry treatment solutions to ensure productive tunnelling work

by Samuel Vitale, Schauenburg MAB

Abstract

Tunnelling in Singapore is composing with ground changing conditions constantly. For project using slurry TBM, the STP must be design to take such difficulty in account. It is easy to make an efficient separation for an excavation in a purely rocky and sandy environment. It is more challenging to have a performant process when the ground is silty and clayish. The presentation will look at solution for these different types of ground and answers to face all of these situations at the same time in one project. What are the machineries that can be used and the efficiency that we can expect from it. The technology is one aspect of the answer, another one is the site methods and the reflex the operation team must have. As technology evolve, we will present the new monitoring solutions that can be add-on to the treatment cycle. Last but not least, public development project is often the guideline of the industry to promote environmentally friendly practices. We will present solution to fully close the retreatment cycle of the water consumed and as well how to classify the spoils and ideas to value them.

Speaker

Samuel Vitale is working in the tunnel industry since 2012. Starting as TBM design engineer for NFM Technologies in France for different projects involving open shields, rock TBM, EPB and Slurry TBMs.

Since 2014 he is posted in Asia for coordinating manufacturing, site installation and production support for the contractors. He was involved in Singapore Thomson East Coast Line projects with the supply of 7 Slurry TBM and 2 EPBM.

In 2020, he joined Schauenburg MAB as APAC manager to support contractors in need of slurry treatment plant in the region.

Schauenburg MAB is currently the main supplier of slurry treatment solution for large diameter projects in South East Asia Asia-Pacific and an historic STP manufacturer of the tunnelling industry.
